Advanced Civ

Monday, August 26, 2013 11:30 PM

J and I had a long, nerdy day yesterday. A friend of ours just finished his dissertation and decided to celebrate earning his doctorate by inviting over a bunch of people to play Advanced Civilization, a board game that involves building civilizations from the stone age to the iron age in the region circling the Mediterranean. It was an especially appropriate game for the group we had, which consisted mostly of academics in history, anthropology, etc.

We started at 9 a.m. with breakfast and learning the rules and wrapped up at 11 p.m. Excluding rules time and breaks, we probably played for 11 hours, and we still had hours to go when we called it a night. We took pictures of the state of the board and all our cards so we can pick it up again in a couple of weeks.
