The Cape

It's been a while since I posted an outfit from a day off, so here's one, even though it's very basic. J and I spent the weekend in Cape Cod with a couple we know through his work. This outfit is from this afternoon, when we thought we might go swimming, but I didn't want to wear a swimsuit coverup in town.

We headed down early Saturday morning and made our first stop in Falmouth, where we rented bikes and rode down the Shining Sea Bikeway to Woods Hole. We had a really strong headwind on the way out, so we had to stop several times to hydrate and catch our breath. In Woods Hole, we watched a seal feeding at the aquarium, ate delicious Mexican-Cape Cod fusion food and swam at Stony Beach, where the water was shallow, warm and relatively free of seaweed.

In the evening, we went to a Cape Cod League baseball game. The league has a dozen teams of top college players from around the country, and the games are free. Chatham whooped Falmouth, and we brought home a roster to pull out in five years and see if any of the players will have made it to the big time.

After breakfast at our B&B in Sandwich on Sunday morning, we drove to the Cape Cod National Seashore and hiked nearly 2.5 to Marconi Beach and back. Though we stayed on the relatively firm sand near the water line, it was difficult enough that the hike took an hour each way.

Then it was time to leave so that we wouldn't get stuck in traffic on the way out of the Cape. It was my first visit there, and there's so much we didn't get to see or do — Martha's Vineyard and/or Nantucket, Provincetown, whale watching, eating lots more seafood. J and I are definitely going back in September sometime, when the weather's still nice but it's less busy and prices are lower.
