Thrift Finds for May

Friday, June 1, 2012 12:30 PM

Color and pattern. Color and pattern. Color and pattern. Once again, those two considerations are guiding — nay, dictating — my shopping. And I found a lot of color and pattern at the thrift and consignment stores in May.

Teal silk scarf with tassel pattern, Material Objects, $8
Although I don't care for most greens, I do enjoy teal, and this scarf will work with many of the abundant blues in my closet.

Black and white patterned blouse, Charter Club, Material Objects, $8
I definitely think of Charter Club as a "mature," somewhat dowdy brand, but this fits nicely and will make for fun pattern mixing. It has to be worn buttoned all the way to the top, though.

Metallic woven belt, Goodwill Falmouth, $2
In person, this belt reads much less brown/bronze and closer to golden. I typically avoid yellow metals, but I couldn't pass up this belt or two others with goldtone hardware:

Purple snakeskin belt, Goodwill Falmouth, $2
This belt posed the same photography challenge as my purple tights. It appears sort of indigo here, but it's actually a warmer shade of deep royal purple.

Snakeskin belt, Goodwill Falmouth, $3
This one photographed accurately, but I don't know what to call the color. Any suggestions?

H&M red shirtdress, Goodwill Falmouth, $5
I'll have to be careful about wearing this to work. It's on the casual side, and the ruching draws attention to the bust. But with layering and accessories, I think it can be appropriate for the office on some days. I have no doubt that it will be perfectly suited to summer weekends.

Bebe red party dress, Goodwill Falmouth, $8
This probably won't make a blog appearance for a good long time. It says "fall wedding" or "holiday party" to me.
